Comment: Inclusive Access for Greek Citizens and Tourists
By Ivor Ambrose, European Network for Accessible Tourism Mrs. Waterman, who wrote to Athens News (Letters to the Editor, 14 March 2008) is, of course, absolutely right. Her husband has a medical condition preventing him from climbing stairs. But when travelling on a Greek ferry they were initially refused access to the lift to take them from the car deck to the passenger decks, as Mr. Waterman does not have a disability permit nor does he use a wheelchair, both of which, they were told, are required by “The Regulations”. Only after a hefty argument were they allowed to take the lift, and then... Read more »
Comment: Inclusive Access for Greek Citizens and Tourists
Ivor Ambrose, European Network for Accessible Tourism, describes a “Catch 22″. A couple traveling on a Greek ferry were denied use of the elevator. Here is a classic example of the absolute failure of the Medical Model of Disability as a basis for social policy. Mrs. Waterman, who wrote to Athens News (Letters to the Editor, 14 March 2008) is, of course, absolutely right. Her husband has a medical condition preventing him from climbing stairs. How to run a credible corporate blog
This article in Hospitality Net debating the issue of corporate blogs - specifically the one by Bill Marriott - as an effective marketing tool reminds me of Seth Godin’s book “The Meatball Sundae”. The bottom line argument of the book is that your communications should be consistent with your overall corporate culture and not be in contradiction. Following the logic of this argument a company blog that is used as a mere PR tool to extend the old one-way communication mindset is not going to be effective and can even backfire in today’s marketplace that has rapidly become... Eroti fun over the clouds
Swiss Blog colleague Travelblogger linked an interesting video on his Blog that I from purely professional Gründen do not withhold here from möchte. Happy Hotelier Syndicated at Travel.Alltop
Recently I saw referrals coming in from Travel.Alltop. According to its Blog Travel.Alltop was launched on March 28, 2008. They thanked Gary Arndt, Chris Holdren, Glenn James, Paul Sanchez, Sheila Scarborough and Jen Leo. Since I don’t happen to know these people, I more or less wonder how I got on their shortlist. Wat is Alltop? Alltop is a site syndicating links from “all the top” sites on the web on various subjects. They divide them in single aggregated pages on topics such as: Cars, Design, Photography, Food Twitter Wine, and now Travel. To name a few of my favorite subjects. I... Read more »
So what would a Google + Expedia Look Like?
I realize I’m a day behind most of my blogging colleagues on commenting on the “Google eyeing Expedia” rumour that resulted in a subsequent rise in Expedia’s share price. For the most part I’m not a big fan of rumours, but it did get me thinking about what such a beast would look like. In November of last year Tim Armstrong from Google presented at the PhoCusWright Conference in Orlando and stated in no uncertain terms that Google has no interest in entering the travel space. So why, less than four months later, would that message have changed so dramatically. ... Read more »
Tourism Strategy: Promote your tourism business on TripAdvisor
In Australia, TripAdvisor is one of the most well-known online reputation checker how I like to call it. For those who do not know, TripAdvisor is an Internet site that allows anyone to comment about their experience at any tourism/hospitality related business. I am asked every second day for a step by step guide to TripAdvisor. As I did not seem to find a 101 Guide to TripAdvisor guide for tourism business owners, I thought I would fill the information gap! image credit Steve Crane Every established web surfers will check what is being said on TripAdvisor about the property he is about to book.... My friend Ollie Childs and his Facebook Song
I hope you are all well aware of the Facebook phenomenon and the power of social-networking platforms to promote your brand. Well, I would like to share with you a very special little story. In March last year, I was visiting Auckland, NZ and found myself at the top of the Auckland tower just about to jump to the bottom (don’t ask!). This is where I met Stu (a bar manager) and Ollie Childs (a guitar song writer, singer and amazing artist, 2 mates that had just freshly landed from the UK. We all jumped for our lives from the Auckland Tower (except for Ollie who for some reason had managed... Read more »
Online Marketing Training Workshop - Beaudesert
This is what I love about my job, I get to meet real people who all work hard at promoting fantastic tourism products throughout Queensland. Yesterday morning I made my way to Beaudesert, which is a short hour drive from Brisbane to conduct a second workshop on online marketing. I walked into a room of about 30 small and medium business operators who were all very eager to learn how to optimise their online marketing strategy. Could I expect anything better on a rainy day?! We all had a lot of fun learning, analysing, discussing and planning and by the end of the day I had even lost my voice. There... Read more »
