As social networks and personalized pages are hot and sizzling, it’s interesting to find out how active the (Dutch) travel portals are with widgets and gadgets. Among the i-google gadgets, Inpakken en wegwezen.nl  (1 million plus visitors) scores quite high with (only) 149 users, while another portal giant (Zoover) generates 142 users. Lots of other travel portals don’t have a gadget yet.  i-googleIf the scope is set broader, NS (the Dutch railway company) has 9.195 users with its travelplanner. This travelplanner has been developed by JPRMedia, according to Google a top developer of gadgets.

At Hyves, which is the Dutch equivalent of Facebook and attracts 6,5 million visitors each month, there are two specific travel gadgets , one being TravBuddy and the other World66, both world map widgets, showing the locations where you’ve been on the globe. No gadgets developed by the travel portals at all. I have not been able to find out the number of users of both widgets.

At Facebook there’s an enormous growth in travel widgets, at the moment (march) 472. The biggest is still  Places where I’ve been, with 56.000 daily users.

Usage of travel widgets and gadgets is still small in the Netherlands, but as i-google is growing strong and Hyves and Facebook are very big, a large growth will come in the following years, I expect.
