Which one of these line painting companies would you hire to paint a crosswalk across your pavement? A:  These lines lead clearly from the parking area to the door of the store: B: These lines lead from a lamp post, shrubs and a curb to some more posts: Before you put lines on your pavement, watch where people walk. Then you’ll know where to paint your lines to get people safely into your store: Painting a crosswalk is a lot like building a website Before your design your next site, use a keyword search tool and find out where people are letting their fingers do the walking! The PhoCusWright perfect mini storm session was facinating, and featured a great panel of industry titans. Doug Quinby hosted Tina Fitch (EZRez), Rod Cuthbert (Viator Inc), Kenneth Purcell (Iseatz.com), and Ranjan Singh (Isango!). Here is a summary of the session with some thoughts at the end. These are not quotes, but I tried to capture the main points: The point was brought up that there are thousands of varied suppliers, what is it that they want? RS: Differentiation TF: Sexy representation and and easy to implement system. KP: Multi Payment options, ie reward miles etc. Also are looking for... Read more »

I mentioned in my previous post that TripIt and Yapta, who both won the emerging category innovator awards at the PhoCusWright Travel Innovation Summit, were also nominated for the Open Web Awards in the Travel Category.  Another innovator TravelMuse.com is the only trip planning site from the Travel Innovation Awards to also be nominated in the awards.  This is a particularly satisfying nomination because I think it speaks to the quality experience that Travelmuse is promoting on their site and some of the really interesting innovations they are rolling out on their site. The trip planning mechanism... Read more »

PhocusWright 2008 is unfolding and after the culture shock of being in Hollywood has finally started to wear off, I am starting to get in the grove. I spoke on a panel of Bloggers yesterday, and usually when I do this we are speaking to an audience of non-bloggers trying to understand why and how we do it. The session was more than 90% full-time bloggers, and they came back for both sessions. This leads me to conclude one of two things; they were looking to connect with their Blogger comrades, or two, they were hoping that we might be the ones to translate what a blogger needs back to the marketing... Read more »

PhoCusWright has again packed a lot of amazing networking, workshops and presentations into one conference. Well the morning of the main center stage conference is in full swing and the trending is looking interesting. We have heard from the VC community; William Carroll, Cornell, Jeff Clarke, Travelport Inc, Sophie Frost, Brightspark Ventures, Jake Fuller, Thomas Weisel Partners. While there were strong references to economic trending with Philip C Wolf saying that “it didn’t look like a economy in recession at the bar last night”. Jeff Clarke was confident that there will be... Read more »

The round one voting for Mashable’s Open Web Awards were just released today at 12:00 EST and I’m really pleased to announce that the two winners of the emerging category from Monday’s Travel Innovation Summit at PhoCusWright 2008 are also features in the Open Web Awards.  There is a lot of buzz around what TripIt and Yapta are doing in their respective spaces and I wish them both the best in both the Center stage presentations as well as the Open Web Awards.  It’s great to see some really innovative travel companies get featured both at a travel industry conference and... Read more »
