Social media and Web 2.0: which strategy for the professionals of tourism?
Read more »

Kayak buys SideStep, some thoughts !
Kayak travel meta-search has acquired rival SideStep for $200 million, say Techrunch in this post. So, we have now a big market leadership in the travel meta-search space. This players are american, but other actors are interesting to see : Sprice (with a international focus, Europe and Asia at this time) DoHop (with great technology for Low Cost airfare in Europe) Bezurk (for asian market) Adam Healey, Co-founder & CEO VibeAgent Inc., write some thoughts about this buying in the VibeAgent blog. “I think this deal is further market validation of the meta-search model that VibeAgent... Tourism Internet Marketing Blog 2.0
Welcome to the new blog layout! Jens Thraenhart recently asked me to participate as a contributor on this blog, the second edition of his Tourism Internet Marketing site. That sounded like fun to me, so I was happy to agree. Jens knows lots about e-marketing for the travel trade. And he has many savvy friends and colleagues in the industry, some of whom will be posting right here on the blog. I’m excited to be a part of that momentum. Who can you trust?
seems to be a question travelers should ask themselves after reading Secrets of Lonely Planet in Gulliver, the new travel related blog by the Economist.com. The publishers, of course, claim that this is an isolated incident but who are we to know for sure. The episode shows that the traditional media are challenged by user generated content and traveler reviews that are spreading across the web with great speed. Who the most trusted sources are has always been clear, it’s relatives and friends with a personal experience about a certain destination or hotel but now peers from your wider social... Read more »
Are you a Jetsetter?
I was commenting on some photos on Facebook when I noticed that a couple of my fellow blogging friends, including the Happy Hotelier and Chris Clarke, had added a new application called Jetsetter, developed by VibeAgent. Although the interface is nothing spectacular and the profile candy is a little large for my liking, the application itself is very simple and fun. In their words… Are you a Jetsetter? See how many miles you’ve traveled this year, and how you stack up against your friends! Let your friends know what trips you’re going on and see which of your friends will be... Read more »
From Cell Phone to Mobile Sensor Platform
No one would disagree that the cell phone is quickly evolving into a personal mobile computing device. Thinking of a cell phone in terms of a mobile sensor platform helps solidify the true nature of the evolution of mobile technology we are witnessing around us. What makes a mobile device a sensor platform? With A-GPS becoming standard, the ability for mobile devices to sense location is obvious, but the device could sense other things as well such as temperature, motion, barometric pressure to just name a few. In addition the ubiquitous nature of broadband wireless connectivity which is... Read more »
